The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
